Tanzania has reinforced its position in the global mining sector by taking part in the Mining Indaba 2026 International Conference in Cape Town, South Africa, a key platform for mining investment and policy dialogue.
Minister for Minerals, Anthony Mavunde, is leading the country’s delegation to the conference, which is taking place from February 8 to 12, 2026, and brings together ministers, global mining executives, investors, and development partners from across the world.
The Tanzanian delegation comprises officials from the Ministry of Minerals and its institutions, the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA), and a broad cross-section of private-sector stakeholders.
These include the Tanzania Chamber of Mines (TCM), the Federation of Mining Associations Tanzania (FEMATA), Tanzania Women in Mining (TAWOMA), Tanzania Youth in Mining (TYM), mining companies, financial institutions, service providers, mineral traders, and other actors along the mining value chain.
According to the Ministry of Minerals, Tanzania’s participation in Mining Indaba 2026 is part of a national strategy to position the country as a reliable partner in the global minerals value chain, particularly at a time when Africa is increasingly recognised as a key supplier of critical minerals essential for clean energy, industrialisation, and sustainable development.
During the conference, Mr Mavunde is expected to participate in the Ministerial Symposium hosted by South Africa’s Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Gwede Mantashe, alongside other high-level sessions bringing together policymakers, investors, and global mining leaders.
The discussions will focus on policy reforms, investment promotion, capital mobilisation, and opportunities within Africa’s strategic minerals sector.
The Minister is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with stakeholders from the United States, the European Union, and Canada, aimed at attracting new investments and strengthening existing partnerships.
Further engagements are planned with companies already operating in Tanzania, as well as with mining associations participating in the forum, to explore collaboration and promote Tanzanian mining opportunities.
Mining Indaba 2026 is being held under the theme “Stronger Together: Progress Through Partnerships,” emphasising collaboration between governments, the private sector, and development partners in building a competitive, resilient, and sustainable mining industry across Africa.
The government says Tanzania’s presence at the forum reflects its continued commitment to improving the investment climate in the mining sector and ensuring that mineral resources contribute meaningfully to economic growth, job creation, and national development.
