The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Government of the Federal Republic of Somalia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in immigration matters.
The agreement aims to waive visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports, as well as to strengthen bilateral cooperation in immigration administration and management between the two countries.
The MoU is expected to enhance coordination between immigration authorities and promote smoother official engagements.
The MoU was signed in Dar es Salaam by Tanzania’s Minister for Home Affairs, Patrobas Katambi, and Somalia’s Minister for Home Affairs, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag.
Speaking after the signing, Minister Katambi acknowledged the existing cooperation between Tanzania and Somalia, particularly in the areas of security, protection, and the transfer of prisoners.
He noted that the agreement will further strengthen collaboration and mutual understanding in addressing immigration-related matters.
The Minister also reaffirmed Tanzania’s commitment to continued cooperation with member states of the East African Community to ensure peace and security across the region.
The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from both governments, including Somalia’s Deputy Minister for Home Affairs, Ayoub Mohamed Mahmoud, and Tanzania’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ally Senga Gugu.
