The Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) has stepped up efforts to attract foreign capital into Tanzania’s agricultural value chains by participating in the Qatar International Agriculture Exhibition, positioning the sector as a viable destination for long-term investment.

The move comes as Tanzania seeks to modernise agriculture, boost productivity, and strengthen export-oriented agribusiness, with TADB playing a catalytic role in mobilising finance and partnerships.

Bank officials say the exhibition provides a strategic platform to engage international investors, development finance institutions, agribusiness firms, and technology providers interested in irrigation farming, agro-processing, climate-smart agriculture, and digital farming solutions.

“TADB’s participation is part of a deliberate strategy to unlock blended financing, attract private capital, and bring in technical expertise that can scale commercial agriculture in Tanzania,” officials said.

The Qatar exhibition brings together global agribusiness stakeholders, including financial institutions, agri-tech innovators, input suppliers, and policymakers, offering TADB a chance to position Tanzania as a competitive agricultural investment hub in Africa.

A key focus for the bank is promoting irrigation-based farming, which reduces climate risks and improves yields, alongside investments in value addition and export-driven production.

TADB is also pitching opportunities linked to digital agriculture, which enhances efficiency, traceability, and access to markets.

The bank sees the Middle East—particularly Qatar—as a strategic market for agricultural trade and investment, given the region’s high food import demand and growing interest in food security partnerships.

Beyond capital mobilisation, TADB’s presence at the expo strengthens economic diplomacy between Tanzania and Qatar, with agriculture emerging as a priority sector for bilateral cooperation.

Agriculture remains one of Tanzania’s largest economic sectors, supporting millions of livelihoods and contributing significantly to GDP. However, analysts note that increased investment, technology adoption, and market access are critical to unlocking its full potential.

Through international engagements such as the Qatar expo, TADB aims to bridge financing gaps, de-risk agricultural investments, and connect Tanzanian farmers and agribusinesses to global markets.

The bank says the initiative aligns with national priorities to transform agriculture into a commercially driven, resilient, and competitive sector capable of driving industrial growth and export earnings.
