Songwe Regional Commissioner, Jabiri Makame, has lauded the government through the Rural Energy Agency (REA) for allocating TZS 28.3 billion to extend electricity to 6,135 households in 173 hamlets across the region.
Makame made the remarks on February 2, 2026, during a meeting with REA officials who introduced the project contractor, M/s Jaitech Company Ltd, tasked with implementing the HEP 2B rural electrification project.
“I sincerely thank Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania, for providing these funds. This project will bring electricity to over 6,000 households in Songwe, transforming lives and supporting local economic activities,” he said.
The Regional Commissioner urged the contractor to carry out the project with speed and professionalism, emphasizing the community’s expectations for early access to electricity to boost development and livelihoods.
Speaking on behalf of the REA Director General, Deputy Director Mr. Frank Mugogo assured that the agency remains committed to delivering high-quality and reliable rural electrification projects, ensuring households across Tanzania gain dependable access to electricity.
