Kengeja, Mtambile Police Stations in ruins, MPs demand action

By The Respondents Reporter

The dire condition of police stations in Kengeja and Mtambile has raised alarm in Parliament, with local MP Said Ibrahim Mzimba urging the government to urgently construct new facilities.

Speaking during a parliamentary session with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mzimba revealed that both stations, built during the colonial era, have deteriorated significantly.

He warned that their poor state hampers police officers’ ability to perform duties effectively, undermining public safety and security services.

“The existing stations are no longer fit for purpose. Our officers struggle to operate efficiently, and this affects the safety of our communities,” Mzimba said.

He called on the government to take swift action and provide modern stations that meet current operational standards.

Responding, Deputy Minister for Home Affairs, Ayoub Mohamed Mahmoud, acknowledged the challenge and confirmed that initial steps have already been taken.

He explained that a thorough assessment is underway to determine the scope of the problem and the specific construction requirements, noting that the estimated costs for the new stations are already known.

Mahmoud assured Parliament that the request has been officially received and integrated into government plans for the 2026/2027 fiscal year, signaling a commitment to improve law enforcement infrastructure in the affected areas.
