Simba SC fought back bravely to earn a 1-1 draw against Angola’s Petro Atletico in a CAF Champions League group-stage match played on February 7, 2026, in Angola.
Petro Atletico struck early, taking the lead in the 13th minute through Pedro Pinto, a goal that injected urgency into the contest as both teams traded attacks in a high-tempo opening.
Simba’s challenge intensified when defender Shomari Kapombe was sent off, forcing the Tanzanian champions to play the remainder of the match with 10 men.
Despite the setback, Simba remained organised but struggled to contain Petro Atletico’s pressure.
The first half ended with the hosts holding a 1-0 advantage, leaving Simba facing an uphill task at the break.
After the restart, Simba showed character and resilience, pushing forward despite their numerical disadvantage. Their determination was rewarded in the 81st minute when Anicet Oura calmly finished to level the score.
Both sides pressed for a late winner, but neither managed to break the deadlock, and the match ended 1-1 with each team taking a point.
The draw leaves Simba in a precarious position in the group standings, having collected just two points from four matches to sit bottom of the table, with qualification hopes hanging in the balance.
In a separate CAF Confederation Cup fixture, Azam FC strengthened their campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over AS Maniema in a group-stage match played at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar.
The win lifted Azam to nine points, level with AS Maniema and Wydad AC at the top of the group, keeping the Dar es Salaam side firmly in contention for a place in the knockout stages.
