Traders in Kariakoo can now regain their livelihoods and optimism following the reconstruction of the iconic Kariakoo Market, thanks to the support of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.
The government allocated over TZS 28 billion to rebuild the market, which was destroyed by fire on October 7, 2021.
During the official opening of the New Kariakoo Main Market, the Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG), Prof. Riziki Shemdoe, expressed his sincere gratitude to the President.
“Mr. President, I sincerely thank you for your goodwill and commitment to restoring hope and smiles to traders and citizens by providing over TZS 28 billion to rebuild and repair Kariakoo Market,” Prof. Shemdoe said.
He highlighted that Kariakoo Market is a critical commercial hub for Dar es Salaam and the country. Prof. Shemdoe assured that his office will ensure the market operates efficiently, provides quality services, and reflects the government’s investment.
The Minister also noted that the government is committed to keeping all roads around Kariakoo Market accessible at all times, allowing the market to serve citizens 24 hours a day.
Prof. Shemdoe concluded by thanking President Samia for entrusting him with the role of Minister in charge of Regional Administration and Local Government, pledging to serve the nation with dedication and integrity.
