The government has emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships (PPP) in driving the implementation of Tanzania’s National Development Vision 2050, promising continued collaboration with the private sector to improve citizens’ lives.

Speaking at the first PPP collaboration meeting between the Ministry of Finance, the Public-Private Partnership Centre (PPPC), and the Ministry of Labour and Investment Zanzibar, Mr. Bashiru Taratibu, Acting Commissioner of the Public-Private Partnership Unit (PPPU), said the private sector is critical for economic growth.

“The implementation of Vision 2050 will begin in June 2026 with the Fourth Development Plan, the first plan aligned with the Vision. The private sector is expected to contribute 70 percent to its implementation. Through PPPs, we aim to create more development projects for private sector involvement,” he said.

Mr. Rashid All Salim, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Investment Zanzibar, urged all sectors to prepare development projects to attract private investment.

“Sectors such as construction, health, agriculture, and infrastructure should identify and document projects that investors can implement,” he said.

Mr. David Kafulila, Executive Director of PPPC, highlighted key investment areas for private participation.

“The government is committed to ensuring the private sector plays a major role in building water infrastructure, roads, bridges, airports, ports, and railways. This approach is essential for developing a competitive economy and achieving the Vision 2050 goals,” he said.

The meeting, held at the Ministry of Finance satellite offices in Dar es Salaam, included a visit to key PPP projects such as the Dar Rapid Transit (DART) system and the DDC project, showcasing successful collaboration between public and private stakeholders in Tanzania Mainland.
