By Lilian Kasenene, Morogoro

Police in Morogoro Region are investigating a fatal road accident involving two heavy trucks that claimed the lives of three people, including both drivers.

Morogoro Regional Police Commander Alex Mkama said the accident occurred on February 25, 2026, at around 8:00pm in Maseyu area, Gwata Ward, Morogoro District.

The crash involved a timber-laden truck and another carrying fuel, which were travelling in opposite directions along the Morogoro–Dar es Salaam Highway. The collision resulted in the deaths of the two drivers and a third person believed to have been a turn boy.

According to the police commander, the truck transporting timber was travelling from Morogoro towards Dar es Salaam when it allegedly left its lane and rammed into the fuel truck coming from the opposite direction. Both vehicles caught fire after the impact and were completely burnt.

Officers from the Fire and Rescue Force, working jointly with the Police Force, managed to contain the blaze and conduct a search of the wreckage.

Two bodies were recovered from the fuel truck, while one body was retrieved from the timber truck.

Preliminary findings indicate that negligence by the driver of the timber truck, who reportedly failed to keep to his lane, was the main cause of the accident.

Commander Mkama said further investigations are underway to establish the full details of the vehicles involved, including their ownership, as well as to identify the bodies recovered from the scene.

He urged all motorists and other road users to exercise caution and strictly adhere to road safety regulations to prevent accidents and avoid loss of life.
