The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Infrastructure has urged the Ministry of Construction to fast-track public-private partnerships (PPP) in road development, aiming to improve travel, reduce delays, and make transport more efficient for citizens.

Deputy Chairperson Abubakar Assenga said fast implementation is crucial to match the government’s upgrades at ports, which have increased cargo traffic and caused long delays on key highways.

“Speed up the construction and expansion of roads, including the Dar es Salaam–Morogoro highway, where traffic congestion has become a daily challenge for transporters and commuters,”  Assenga said during a training session organized by the National Construction Council (NCC) in Dodoma.

He also stressed the importance of finalizing the Construction Act to prevent unsafe and non-compliant buildings, ensuring quality and safety for all citizens.

Minister of Construction, Abdallah Ulega, highlighted that the construction sector is a major driver of the economy, with Tanzania’s road network, managed by TANROADS, valued at around TZS 34 trillion.

Dr. Matiko Nturi, NCC’s Chief Executive Officer, noted that construction not only supports other economic sectors but also creates jobs, boosts national income, and strengthens skills and technology that benefit Tanzanians.

By accelerating road projects through partnerships and enforcing construction standards, citizens can expect smoother travel, safer infrastructure, and a stronger economy that directly improves daily life.
