As the cool rain (Masika) season blankets northern Tanzania, the breathtaking landscape of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area once again affirms its status as one of the world’s most remarkable natural treasures.
Surrounded by towering crater walls rising about 610 metres, the area resonates with the sounds of wildlife and birds, a vivid reminder of Ngorongoro’s reputation as Africa’s enduring “Rock of Rocks,” rich in natural attractions, cultural heritage and ecological wonders.
It was within this setting that members of the Board of Directors of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) conducted an official familiarisation tour, covering key sites from the Authority’s headquarters to the iconic Ngorongoro Crater.
The visit was led by the Board’s Vice Chairperson, Dr Harrieth Mtae, and aimed at assessing conservation efforts and overall management of the globally renowned area.
During the tour, Board members had the opportunity to observe firsthand the exceptional natural beauty and biodiversity that have placed Ngorongoro among the most admired tourism destinations worldwide.
The crater floor, often described as a natural Eden, showcased the richness of wildlife and landscapes that continue to draw visitors from across the globe.
The Board itself is composed of professionals from diverse fields, including conservation, security, economics, ecology, community development, auditing, law, governance and diplomacy.
This multidisciplinary composition was highlighted as a key strength in guiding strategic decisions that balance environmental protection, community welfare and sustainable tourism development.
Impressed by the progress achieved, the Board commended NCAA management for its commitment and performance, urging them to maintain the pace and further strengthen promotion of Ngorongoro at both national and international levels.
Members described Ngorongoro as Africa’s leading tourism attraction for 2025, calling for continued efforts to showcase the site as a source of national pride and a pillar of Tanzania’s tourism economy.
