Local investor builds Rukwa’s largest hotel on TISEZA incentives

A TZS2.5 billion domestic investment is transforming the hospitality landscape in Rukwa Region as a local investor, benefiting from government-backed incentives, constructs the region’s largest hotel to date.

The six-storey facility, developed by Amos Investment Limited in Sumbawanga Municipality, is being implemented under incentives provided by the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA).

Upon completion, the modern hotel will feature 48 guest rooms, a restaurant and supporting facilities, positioning it among the biggest accommodation investments ever undertaken in the Rukwa Region.

TISEZA officials recently visited the project as part of a national campaign to promote domestic investment in Rukwa, an initiative aimed at encouraging Tanzanians to invest in emerging regional economies.

Speaking during the visit, Amos Investment Limited Managing Director, Mr Amos Lazaro Magaba, said construction is expected to be completed within the next four months and will generate at least 50 direct jobs for Tanzanians once the hotel becomes operational.

Mr Magaba said he registered his investment with TISEZA in 2023 and received an investment certificate that enabled him to access incentives, including a 75 per cent customs duty exemption on imported hotel equipment. The items include beds, televisions, a lift, air conditioners, fans and laundry machines.

He noted that the savings realised through these incentives have significantly accelerated construction works and improved the overall quality of the hotel’s infrastructure.

“The incentives have helped us save substantial costs, allowing us to fast-track finishing works and invest more in quality facilities,” he said, urging other Tanzanians to seize available investment opportunities by registering their projects with TISEZA.

TISEZA Investment Promotion Manager, Mr Daudi Riganda, described the project as a model investment for Sumbawanga, saying it demonstrates the potential of domestic investors to drive regional economic growth.

He said the hotel is expected to strengthen tourism and business accommodation services in Rukwa, a region whose economy continues to expand alongside improved infrastructure and rising commercial activity.

Mr Riganda added that plans by Amos Investment Limited to expand into other ventures would qualify the company for additional incentive certification, enabling it to continue benefiting from government investment motivation schemes.

He also noted that the company could partner with local and foreign investors to scale up its operations, with TISEZA ready to support the process.

The project is widely seen as a significant boost to Rukwa’s hospitality sector and a clear signal of the growing role of local investors in supporting Tanzania’s regional development agenda.
