Muhimbili Hospital explores strategic health partnership with Comoros

By The Respondents Reporter

The leadership of Muhimbili National Hospital has conducted a high-level working visit to the Union of the Comoros as part of preparations to establish a strategic partnership in the health sector, with a particular focus on strengthening military hospital services.

The visit, undertaken at the invitation of the Comoros Defence Forces, was led by Muhimbili’s Executive Director, Dr Delilah Charles Kimambo.

It featured professional meetings with the Comoros Military Hospital and senior defence officials aimed at assessing healthcare delivery systems and identifying areas for collaboration.

During the visit, the Muhimbili delegation inspected hospital infrastructure, reviewed available medical equipment and engaged in detailed discussions on the status of health services and priority areas requiring improvement.

The engagements focused on how best to enhance service efficiency, quality of care and access to specialised medical treatment.

The Comoros Defence Forces expressed interest in partnering with Muhimbili National Hospital in areas including hospital management, provision of specialised and super-specialised medical services, upgrading of medical equipment and the introduction of integrated treatment approaches.

The proposed cooperation is expected to benefit both military personnel and the wider civilian population in Comoros.

The visit was coordinated by the Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in Comoros, with Tanzania’s Ambassador to Comoros, Mr Saidi Yakubu, accompanying the delegation throughout the programme.

He reaffirmed the Tanzanian government’s commitment to advancing health diplomacy and strengthening regional cooperation in healthcare.

Muhimbili’s leadership said the hospital was ready to support the Comoros Military Hospital in improving operational systems, building human resource capacity through training and skills transfer, and supporting the establishment of specialised medical services that are currently unavailable in the country.

The initiative is expected to open a new chapter of cooperation between Tanzania and Comoros in the health sector, while further deepening long-standing diplomatic and strategic relations between the two countries.
