Mbeya Regional Commissioner, Beno Malisa, has held discussions with Panda Hill Limited, a company engaged in niobium mining, on the progress and future of the project in Bonde la Songwe Ward, Mbeya District.
Panda Hill representative, Mr. Emmanuel M. Kisasi, briefed RC Malisa on the project’s developments, noting that the company is awaiting an official government notice from the Ministry of Minerals to finalize the signing of the Framework Agreement (FWA).
Once signed, the agreement will allow the project to officially commence, creating substantial benefits for local communities and the nation.
The niobium mining project is expected to generate more than 1,500 direct jobs during the construction phase.
The planned FeNb mineral processing plant in Mbeya will see investments exceeding $59 million, primarily spent on local procurement.
Moreover, over TZS 16 billion will be channeled into community development, including a new prison accommodating 600 inmates, 120 housing units for prison staff, schools, worship centers, sports facilities, and other public infrastructure.
These initiatives will form part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs, supporting government efforts in education, health, and local infrastructure.
The meeting underlined the potential of the Panda Hill project to transform Mbeya’s economy, providing employment, boosting local industries, and contributing to Tanzania’s broader development agenda.
