A local investor benefiting from incentives offered by the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority) has established a motorcycle assembling plant in Songwe Region with the capacity to produce up to 10,000 units per year, strengthening local industrialisation and job creation.
The factory, owned by Mbeya Line Company Limited, is located in Mlowo Ward, Mbozi District. It began production in 2022 with an initial investment of TZS500 million and has so far created employment opportunities for 13 Tanzanians.
Speaking on the project, the company’s Managing Director, Mr Burton Mwakibwili, said the plant assembles motorcycles using spare parts imported from China, a model that significantly reduces production costs and enables the company to offer competitively priced products to the market.
He said the company assembles T-Better motorcycles, which have gained acceptance in several regions, including Songwe, Mbeya and Rukwa, while also finding markets in neighbouring countries such as Zambia and Malawi.
Mr Mwakibwili added that local assembly has helped improve access to affordable motorcycles, which play a critical role in transport, trade and service delivery, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.
Meanwhile, TISEZA’s Head of Public Relations and Communication Unit, Ms Aderina Rushekya, urged residents of Songwe and Tanzanians at large to take advantage of the investment opportunities available in the region.
She said Mbeya Line Company Limited has benefited from key investment incentives, including a 75 per cent customs duty exemption, as well as streamlined access to essential permits through TISEZA’s One Stop Facilitation Centre.
Ms Rushekya emphasised that domestic investment remains a vital driver of economic growth, employment creation and the development of sustainable manufacturing industries in the country.
