Kahama District Administrative Secretary, Ms. Glory Absalum, has urged local councilors to champion the use of electricity for cooking, highlighting its role in promoting clean energy and improving citizens’ well-being.
Speaking on February 17, 2026, on behalf of the District Commissioner during a working session between TANESCO and councilors from 20 wards, Ms. Absalum said access to electricity presents a significant opportunity to enhance quality of life.
“Thanks to His Excellency the President for expanding electricity projects that make energy more accessible. Today, women can cook safely using electricity, protecting both their health and the environment. Electric cooking reduces dependence on firewood and charcoal, helping conserve our forests,” she said.
Kahama Town Member of Parliament, Benjamin Ngayiwa, encouraged councilors to work closely with TANESCO to protect electrical infrastructure, citing damage caused by irresponsible behavior as a key challenge affecting reliable electricity delivery.
TANESCO Shinyanga Manager, Ms. Khadija Mbaruku, commended the local leaders for participating in the session and pledged continued cooperation to ensure timely electricity supply, with priority given to social institutions.
“We value your engagement and commitment. TANESCO will continue collaborating with local leaders to enhance electricity services, focusing on schools, health centers, and places of worship,” Ms. Mbaruku said.
Kahama Municipal Mayor, Mataluma Kaniki, also attended the session, which aimed to build councilors’ understanding of TANESCO’s programs and development plans in their respective wards.
