Equity Bank, Mixx by Yas partner to expand financial access nationwide

By The Respondents Reporter

Equity Bank Tanzania has entered into a strategic partnership with Mixx by Yas aimed at expanding access to financial services by leveraging Mixx by Yas’s extensive network of agents across the country.

The collaboration is part of wider efforts to strengthen financial inclusion by bringing basic banking services closer to communities, particularly in areas far from bank branches.

Through the arrangement, Equity customers can now deposit money directly into their bank accounts and withdraw cash at authorised Mixx by Yas agents nationwide.

Transactions are conducted through the Equity Mobile App for smartphone users, while customers using feature phones can access the service via the USSD code 15007#.

The service is offered under the slogan “Deposit Money, Withdraw Money,” reflecting its focus on convenience and ease of use.

Speaking at the launch in Dar es Salaam, Equity Bank Tanzania Managing Director Isabela Maganga said the partnership is a practical response to the challenge of limited physical access to banking services for many Tanzanians.

She said the use of Mixx by Yas agents will reduce the need for customers to travel long distances to bank branches, enabling them to carry out transactions safely and at lower cost within their own communities.

The bank said the initiative is expected to simplify access to financial services, create new income opportunities for agents, increase money circulation at the local level and encourage greater participation in the formal financial system.

Mixx by Yas Chief Executive Officer Angelica Pesha said the partnership combines Equity’s banking experience with the strength of the Mixx digital platform to turn community-based service points into full banking access channels.

She added that the collaboration, including the expansion of international money transfer services, will improve accessibility and reliability for millions of Tanzanians while supporting the development of a more inclusive and digitally connected financial ecosystem.

The partnership reflects a growing trend in the financial sector to integrate banking services with digital and mobile platforms in order to reach customers more efficiently.

By relying on trusted agents embedded in local communities, Equity’s services are now more accessible than before, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

In line with this strategy, Equity Bank Tanzania continues to roll out customer-focused products. The bank has recently introduced the Wezesha Account, a fixed deposit product that allows customers to invest from as low as TZS500,000, with tenures of up to three years and the option to borrow up to 80 per cent of their savings without breaking the deposit.

The collaboration between Equity Bank Tanzania and Mixx by Yas is expected to play a key role in expanding financial access, supporting local economic activity and accelerating the shift towards a more inclusive financial system in the country.
