Officials from the Ministry of Energy have praised the rapid pace of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) project, which has now reached 81 percent completion, noting the significant opportunities it continues to create for Tanzanians, including jobs, skills development, and local business participation.

Speaking on February 27, 2026, in Chongoleani, Tanga, the head of the Ministry delegation, Ms. Mary Kessy, said employees from various departments and units were impressed by the scale and speed of this strategic 1,443-kilometre pipeline, which stretches from Hoima in Uganda to Tanzania’s coast.

“The delegation is satisfied with what we have seen. The project is not only advancing at a remarkable pace but is also opening new avenues for local employment and technical skill transfer,” Ms. Kessy said.

She also commended the Ministry’s leadership for organizing the visit, which involved more than 100 energy sector employees who had the chance to witness the project’s progress firsthand.

Mr. Mussa Msafiri, a supervisor from the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), highlighted key ongoing works along the pipeline corridor.

He noted that welding of the pipeline segments has been fully completed, while construction of pumping stations and pressure-reducing facilities has reached 71.6 percent. Tank farms are now 88 percent complete, and jetty works stand at 87 percent.

He emphasized that TPDC’s participation is part of Tanzania’s broader national strategy to develop the oil and gas sector, ensuring that the country’s natural resources benefit citizens through jobs, local contracts, and skills development initiatives.

“The EACOP project is a strategic initiative that directly contributes to Tanzania’s energy development agenda. Its successful implementation will have lasting economic and social benefits for the country,” Mr. Msafiri added.
