Electricity projects prioritized to boost development in mining areas

Kahama District Administrative Secretary, Ms. Glory Absalum, has stressed that electricity is a vital resource that should be prioritized in mining areas due to its key role in creating jobs, boosting local businesses, and improving the lives of communities.

Speaking on February 16, 2026, at a working session between TANESCO and councillors from Msalala District, Ms. Absalum commended TANESCO for actively involving local councillors in electricity projects.

She said councillors, as community representatives, are essential in sharing information about electricity developments directly with residents.

“Electricity is transforming our communities. In mining areas like Msalala, the benefits of these projects are already visible. Involving councillors ensures that we can identify other priority areas where electricity is needed and keep the public informed,” Ms. Absalum said.

Acting TANESCO Regional Manager for Shinyanga, Mr. Antony Tarimo, highlighted that TANESCO has carried out strategic projects, including expanding power reception and cooling stations at Bulyanhulu and Buzwagi mines, to ensure reliable electricity supply in the region.

He added that growing economic activities have increased electricity demand, but these projects aim to provide a steady and dependable supply to communities and businesses.

Local councillors expressed their appreciation for TANESCO’s approach, saying it helps them communicate directly with residents, especially during public meetings where explanations are needed.

This initiative is part of TANESCO’s ongoing effort to engage councillors, local government leaders, and ward officials.

The goal is to ensure communities understand electricity project development, how to protect infrastructure, use electricity safely, and adopt clean energy solutions for cooking.
