Dodoma Regional Commissioner Rosemary Senyamule has urged residents in villages earmarked for electricity connection to prepare early by wiring their homes, saying readiness at household level will ensure immediate access to power once the project is completed.
Ms Senyamule made the call in Dodoma City during the official introduction of Giza Cable Industries S.A.E of Egypt, the contractor tasked with implementing the electricity distribution project in 379 villages across the region.
She said the government has made a huge investment in expanding access to electricity and it is important for citizens to match that effort by putting in place proper internal wiring in their homes.
She noted that delays in household wiring often deny residents timely access to electricity even after infrastructure has reached their areas.
Early preparation, she said, would allow families to benefit without unnecessary setbacks once the project is finalised.
The Regional Commissioner also directed the contractor to ensure the project is completed in line with the agreed contract, or earlier where possible, stressing that timely delivery will accelerate economic activities and improve living standards in rural and peri-urban communities.
At the same time, Ms Senyamule warned residents against unqualified electricians, popularly known as vishoka, who often exploit citizens during electrification projects.
She said the regional administration is determined to curb the practice and urged residents to engage only recognised and qualified technicians to carry out electrical wiring in their homes to ensure safety and value for money.
REA Central Zone Project Supervising Engineer Aneth Malingumu said the government has allocated TZS43.9 billion for the project, which will be implemented in villages located in Chamwino, Kongwa, Mpwapwa, Kondoa and Chemba districts.
She explained that the project is expected to connect 12,256 initial customers and significantly expand access to reliable electricity in the region.
Ms Malingumu said access to electricity, when properly utilised, is a key driver of economic growth at household and community levels.
She added that the service will also strengthen the delivery of social services, particularly in the health and education sectors.
She reiterated the importance of residents wiring their homes early, noting that REA will continue to work closely with the contractor to resolve operational challenges and ensure timely payments so the project is completed within the three-year contractual period.
Dodoma TANESCO Regional Manager, Engineer Donasia Shamba, said TANESCO, as the project consultant, will closely supervise implementation to ensure that all materials and construction works meet the required quality standards.
He said strict adherence to technical specifications is essential for achieving the government’s goal of providing safe and reliable electricity through REA.
Representing the contractor, Engineer Almas Msuya said Giza Cable Industries is ready to implement the project in accordance with government directives and contractual conditions.
He assured stakeholders that the company is committed to completing the electricity distribution works on time to ensure the targeted 379 villages benefit as planned.
Once completed, the project is expected to improve livelihoods, stimulate local economies and enhance access to essential services for more than 12,000 residents across Dodoma Region.
