The Chairperson of Nzega Town Council, Paschal Kigalu, has died following a road traffic accident involving a head-on collision between two vehicles.
The accident occurred in the early hours of 17 February 2026 at Kitangili area and involved a Range Rover Vogue and a Toyota Kluger, the latter belonging to the chairperson.
The Acting Medical Officer in Charge of Nzega Town Hospital, Dr. Sephania Muyanga, confirmed receiving the bodies of two deceased persons who died as a result of the accident.
“We have received the bodies of two men who died in the accident, including that of Mr. Kigalu and another person who has not yet been identified. We have also received several injured victims whose number will be known later, and life-saving procedures are ongoing,” said Dr. Muyanga.
Kigalu has passed away just two months after being elected by the Councilors as Chairperson of Nzega Town Council.
He emerged the winner in the council election held on 5 December 2025, following his victory as Councillor for Itilo Ward through the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party in the election held on 29 December 2025.
The Member of Parliament for Nzega Urban Constituency, Hussein Bashe, said the deceased has been called to heaven and urged people to pray for his peaceful rest.
“We have suffered a great loss. Burial arrangements will be announced later. Let us continue to pray for his eternal peace,” said Bashe while officiating a ceremony to congratulate teachers for the good performance of schools in Nzega Town.
