The National Sports Council (NSC) will carry out assessments of regional sports committees in 12 regions during the third quarter of this financial year to evaluate their performance and ensure compliance with the council’s regulations.
According to Benson Chacha, Head of Sports Development at NSC, the regional committees play a key role in implementing the council’s mandates, including registration of sports bodies, talent development, infrastructure management, and coordination of competitions.
“The committees under review include Kagera, Shinyanga, Simiyu, Mara, Mwanza, Geita, Tanga, Kilimanjaro, Arusha, Manyara, Singida, and Tabora,” Mr. Chacha said.
He explained that the assessment will focus on how well the committees are prepared to develop sports in their regions, create employment opportunities, strengthen peace and social cohesion, encourage community participation, and contribute to the goals of Tanzania’s National Vision 2050.
Mr. Chacha added that the review will also examine governance, transparency, and accountability in managing sports associations and federations at the regional level, ensuring that operations align with national standards.
NSC’s exercise comes as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen sports administration and promote organized, inclusive, and sustainable sports development across Tanzania.
