ACT-Wazalendo says election participation strengthened democracy and justice

By The Respondents Reporter

The political party ACT-Wazalendo has reaffirmed that its decision to participate in the last General Election was a responsible and forward-looking choice, arguing that democratic rights and justice can only be defended through active engagement within the electoral process.

Speaking to party members, the party’s National Chairperson, Othman Masoud Othman, said taking part in the election enabled the party to clearly identify weaknesses, irregularities, and systemic flaws in the electoral framework an important step that later allowed meaningful political dialogue to take place.

According to Othman, participation provided factual evidence of the challenges facing elections in Zanzibar and across Tanzania, strengthening the case for reforms and accountability.

“One cannot demand justice while standing outside democratic competition. By participating, we were able to demonstrate to citizens and the international community where the system falls short,” he said.

He stressed that election boycotts deny the public and institutions credible proof of existing problems, making reform efforts more difficult. Instead, engagement within the system creates opportunities to document shortcomings and push for constructive change.

Othman further urged party members and supporters to remain united and focused, noting that their participation made it possible to file formal complaints and pursue lawful channels to address electoral concerns.

ACT-Wazalendo Zanzibar Vice Chairperson Ismail Jussa highlighted that internal unity and discipline among members have contributed to the party’s growing credibility and public trust nationwide.

Former party chairperson Juma Duni Haji said he was proud to be part of ongoing initiatives aimed at achieving a lasting political settlement that safeguards unity and stability for present and future generations of Zanzibaris.

He also commended Muhammed Ali Sheni and Aman Abeid Karume for demonstrating wisdom and patriotism by prioritizing national interests in the search for a sustainable political solution in Zanzibar.

Additionally, Duni praised party members for their patience and maturity, acknowledging their commitment to peaceful conduct during a challenging political period.

Meanwhile, ACT-Wazalendo Zanzibar Deputy Secretary General Omar Ali Shehe called on members and supporters to continue backing party leadership as efforts toward inclusive dialogue and political stability in Zanzibar move forward.
