The National Chairperson of ACT-Wazalendo, Othman Masoud Othman, has called on citizens especially Muslims to stand together in prayer and action for the good of the nation, emphasizing peaceful solutions, justice for all, and unity that serves the many rather than the interests of a few.
Speaking after Friday prayers at the Iptisam Mosque in Pemba South Region, Othman stressed that citizens who truly care about their country should reject divisions and instead play an active role in resolving differences through dialogue and mutual understanding.
“Any Muslim and any citizen who wishes well for this country should not support conflict. Our responsibility is to use our positions, big or small, to reconcile and build peace,” he said.
As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, Othman also highlighted issues that directly affect ordinary people’s lives, reminding worshippers of the importance of honest work and lawful livelihoods. He noted that true worship is inseparable from integrity in daily life.
“One cannot earn unlawfully, consume what is unlawful, and then claim to have truly observed the holy month of Ramadan,” he emphasized, calling for ethical conduct that protects families and strengthens communities.
Delivering the sermon, the mosque’s khatib, Yusouf Mwalim Zubeiry, underscored that justice means doing what is right for those under one’s responsibility, without being guided by personal desires or selfish interests.
He warned that oppression and moral wrongdoing harm society as a whole and are rejected by God.
The prayers concluded with a special supplication for peace, justice, and prosperity in Zanzibar, and for the safety and well-being of all its citizens reflecting a shared hope for a future built on fairness, unity, and respect for human dignity.
