Young Africans SC (Yanga) were held to a 1-1 draw by Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League group-stage return leg on January 31, 2026, at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar.
The Tanzanian champions and the Egyptian side shared points in a tightly contested match that featured high intensity and tactical battles throughout the 90 minutes.
Yanga opened the scoring in first-half stoppage time when Ibrahim Bacca struck in the 45+1 minute, giving the home side a morale-boosting lead.
Al Ahly, however, responded early in the second half as Aliou Dieng leveled the score in the 60th minute, securing a crucial away point for the Egyptian club.
Despite missing out on all three points, Yanga remain in the hunt for progression. The team has two matches remaining, where a maximum six points will be critical for advancing to the knockout stage.
Speaking after the game, Yanga vice-captain Dickson Job expressed gratitude to fans, both in Zanzibar and those following the match elsewhere, for their unwavering support.
“Our goal was to win and claim all three points, but even one point is important in this race,” Job said.
“The campaign is far from over. We still have two matches ahead, and we will fight hard to secure the six points needed to move forward because the opportunity remains.”he added
The draw leaves Yanga’s group tightly contested, setting up a decisive finish in the remaining fixtures as both teams continue their quest for a spot in the next stage of Africa’s premier club competition.
