The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has positioned its Business Facilitation Desk as a strategic platform for nurturing young entrepreneurs and integrating them into the formal economy, as the country steps up efforts to promote youth-led growth and expand the tax base.
TRA made the remarks on January 10, 2026, during the launch of the Tanzania Youth Forum held at the Julius Nyerere International Conference Centre in Dar es Salaam.
The event was officiated by the Minister for Youth Development, Joel Arthur Nanauka, and attracted young participants from across the country.
Speaking at the forum, an officer from TRA’s Taxpayer Education and Communication Department, Mr Aniceth Ndailagije, said the authority recognises the growing contribution of emerging taxpayers, particularly young people, to national development.
He said TRA has deliberately established mechanisms to identify, reach and support youth entrepreneurs within their communities.
“The Business Facilitation Desk is a key tool for grooming young entrepreneurs, addressing the challenges they face and guiding them to operate their businesses in a compliant and sustainable manner,” Mr Ndailagije said.
“Our goal is to enable young people to take full advantage of available economic opportunities while contributing to sustainable development.”he added
He said TRA continues to engage closely with business operators to understand their concerns and resolve bottlenecks that limit growth, noting that such efforts are aimed at helping businesses expand, formalise and play a meaningful role in the economy, while also widening the tax net.
Mr Ndailagije used the platform to advocate voluntary tax compliance, urging young entrepreneurs to register for Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TIN) as a critical step towards formal business operations.
He said a TIN not only simplifies tax processes but also enhances credibility, making it easier for youth to access financing and partner with other institutions.
“Formalisation builds trust. When young entrepreneurs register and comply, they unlock more opportunities and position their businesses for long-term growth,” he said.
The Tanzania Youth Forum was described as a vital platform for enabling young people to participate actively in economic activities, exchange ideas and contribute to improving livelihoods and community development.
Through its engagement at the forum, TRA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting youth entrepreneurship by providing education, guidance and responsive services, as part of broader efforts to build a resilient, inclusive and compliant taxpayer base in the country.
