Morogoro Regional Police have arrested three individuals in connection with separate incidents of murder and sexual violence across the region.
In the first case, 50-year-old Helakimu Kacheli was apprehended for allegedly killing his wife, 27-year-old Sofina Alipisin, reportedly over jealousy.
Morogoro Regional Police Commander, Alex Mkama, said Kacheli was arrested on January 4, 2026, while attempting to take his own life by stabbing himself with a sharp object.
He is now receiving medical treatment under police protection. Kacheli, a farmer from Sesenga Village, allegedly attacked his wife, who lived in Lumbachini Village.
In another case, 42-year-old Justine Thomas, from Sogeambele Sub-village, Bonye Village in Bwakila Ward, was arrested on January 5, 2026, for allegedly killing Machafu Magembe Masanja, 42, following a dispute over rice sales without consent.
In a separate incident, 33-year-old Andrew Joseph Katanga from Katinduuka, Kilombero District, was arrested for allegedly raping his 14-year-old biological daughter.
The alleged assault occurred on December 31, 2025, when Katanga reportedly locked the girl in a room and sexually assaulted her.
Commander Mkama called on the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. He urged citizens to report criminal activity promptly to prevent such incidents before they escalate.
