The Government is urging Tanzanians to take full advantage of local investment opportunities, transform idle land and resources into income-generating ventures, and play an active role in growing the nation’s economy.

Speaking during the launch of a nationwide 60-day campaign, Prof. Kitila Mkumbo, Minister of State in the President’s Office – Planning and Investment, emphasized that ordinary citizens can become successful investors when equipped with the right knowledge and support.

“Land left unused or rented out to foreign investors for minimal returns is a missed opportunity,” Prof. Mkumbo said.

“Ownership alone is not enough. Citizens should use their land productively, seek business partners, and leverage guidance from the Tanzania Investment Center and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA) to make it a source of real income.”he added

The campaign will provide practical guidance to Tanzanians on turning their land, skills, and resources into viable businesses.

It will focus on sectors prioritized in the National Development Vision 2050, including agriculture, manufacturing, energy, and services areas where local investors can thrive and generate employment.

Gilead Teri, Director General of TISEZA, noted that the authority aims to register at least 1,500 locally-owned investment projects, giving citizens the tools and support to participate directly in the country’s economic growth.

Victor Byemelwa, Communications and Relations Manager at Kilombero Sugar Company, praised the government for improving the business environment and addressing challenges faced by local entrepreneurs.

He said such initiatives create real opportunities for Tanzanians to invest confidently and sustainably.

The campaign, which begins on January 17, 2026, will reach communities across Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, offering education, mentorship, and support to citizens ready to take action.

“Now is the moment for Tanzanians to take control of their economic future,” Prof. Mkumbo said.

“Use your land, skills, and ideas wisely. Transform them into businesses that generate income, create jobs, and contribute to national development. The knowledge and support are available what matters is action.”he added

With this campaign, the Government aims to ensure that Tanzanians are not just landowners or resource holders but active investors shaping the country’s economic future.
