The Government of Tanzania, in partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), is stepping up efforts to develop the livestock and fisheries sectors, aiming to improve incomes and livelihoods for Tanzanian communities.
Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Ambassador Dr. Bashiru Ally Kakurwa (MP), held talks today with an IFAD delegation at his office in Mtumba, Dodoma.
He welcomed the visit, saying it reflects IFAD’s commitment to supporting initiatives that directly benefit citizens.
“The government is committed to creating a friendly environment that allows investors and the private sector to work with communities, helping Tanzanians improve their livelihoods,” Dr. Kakurwa said.
The IFAD delegation was led by Country Director and Representative in Tanzania, Mr. Seth Meng, together with the Country Programme Coordinator, Ms. Jacqueline Machangu.
The meeting focused on two key projects: the Dairy Industry Transformation and Climate Change Project (C-SDTP) and the Agriculture and Fisheries Development Programme (AFDP).
Both projects aim to increase productivity, strengthen value chains, and help farmers and fishers adapt to climate change.
Through these programs, citizens involved in livestock and fisheries stand to gain better access to resources, training, and markets, ensuring that development reaches the people who need it most.
