Tanzanians have been urged to seize emerging economic opportunities linked to the construction of a new football stadium in Arusha City, one of the key facilities being built as the country prepares to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The call was made on January 30, 2026, by the Chairperson of the Committee of Permanent Secretaries, who is also the Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament, Coordination and Persons with Disabilities), Dr Jim Yonazi, during an inspection visit to assess the progress of the project.
Speaking after the visit, Dr Yonazi expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction, noting that the stadium has reached 74 percent completion.
He described the project as a strategic national investment whose benefits will extend well beyond the AFCON 2027 tournament.
“This is not just a stadium for a single event. It is a long-term asset that will serve the country by hosting international and domestic matches, as well as other major events,” he said.
“These activities will open up business opportunities for traders, service providers and the wider community.”he added
Dr Yonazi said the project is being implemented in line with high construction standards, including infrastructure designed to accommodate persons with disabilities, ensuring equal access to services for both visitors and local users.
He added that the stadium is expected to play a significant role in stimulating sports tourism and strengthening economic activity in Arusha, one of East Africa’s leading tourism destinations.
The Arusha Stadium is part of Tanzania’s broader preparations to co-host AFCON 2027 alongside Kenya and Uganda, a move expected to enhance the country’s international profile while delivering lasting economic and social benefits.
