Tanga sets course for financial services week

By The Respondents Reporter

Tanga is stepping up preparations for the Financial Services Week celebrations following a high-level coordination meeting held in the city, bringing together the Ministry of Finance and the Tanga Regional Government.

The meeting focused on aligning strategies and finalising joint preparations ahead of the event, which is seen as a key driver of financial inclusion and citizen empowerment.

The session drew participation from a wide range of stakeholders, including representatives of Wanawake na Samia, the Women Empowerment Forum, widows’ associations, the Tanga Women Gala, small-scale traders, as well as officials from the Office of the Regional Commissioner and the Tanga City Council.

The broad representation highlighted the government’s emphasis on inclusivity and grassroots participation in advancing access to financial services.

Participants resolved that leaders of community groups, public servants and other stakeholders should take on the role of ambassadors by actively mobilising residents of Tanga and neighbouring regions to attend the event.

The goal is to ensure that citizens benefit from free financial education that will be offered throughout the week, equipping them with knowledge and skills to better manage their finances and tap into available economic opportunities.

The Financial Services Week celebrations are scheduled to run from January 19 to 26, 2026, at the Usagara Grounds in Tanga.

The Minister for Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (MP), is expected to officiate as the guest of honour. The initiative aims to deepen public understanding of financial services, promote responsible financial behaviour and support inclusive economic growth.
