Sports stakeholders and sponsors have been urged to come forward and support the upcoming national athletics talent discovery and development championships, set to run from March 27 to 29 at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium.

Speaking to The Respondent Online, Deputy Chairperson of the Dar es Salaam Athletics Association (DAA), Elizabeth Tungaraza, said the doors are open for organizations and sponsors to join hands, and the association is ready to welcome their support.

“The aim is to identify and nurture young talents, including future stars who could become national icons like Simbu. We want to ensure the country’s athletics pipeline remains strong,” she said.

Ms. Tungaraza added that the championships are open to young athletes from across the country. “Children from outside Dar es Salaam are encouraged to participate and showcase their talents,” she said.

The three-day event is expected to attract around 3,000 young athletes aged six to 17. In addition, over 10,000 parents, guardians, and community members are expected to attend, turning the championships into a major sporting spectacle.

Describing the event as historic, Ms. Tungaraza said it will serve as a national platform for discovering, developing, and nurturing young athletics talent, laying a solid foundation for Tanzania’s future sporting excellence.

“This initiative will help build the next generation of athletes who will represent the nation at regional and international levels,” she said.
