Rukwa Police refute claims of CHADEMA arrests in Nkasi

By Our Reporter, Sumbawanga

The Rukwa Regional Police have dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that opposition party CHADEMA members were beaten or arrested while climbing trees in Nkasi District.

In a statement issued on January 21, 2026, the Acting Regional Police Commander described the claims as misleading and intended to create unnecessary panic among the public.

The statement directly addressed rumors suggesting that CHADEMA supporters were subjected to police brutality or detention in Nkasi and across the wider Rukwa Region.

The police clarified that no arrests were made, no batons were used, and no violence occurred against any CHADEMA members in the area.

The Rukwa Police reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the safety of citizens and their property. They called on the public to exercise caution and avoid sharing unverified information that could lead to confusion, incite hatred, or undermine trust between communities and public institutions.

The statement concluded by noting that the police will continue to maintain law and order, and any verified security concerns will be communicated through official channels.
