Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba has officially laid the foundation stone for a major water pumping and storage project in Mwanza Region, a move set to transform water supply and accessibility for residents.

The project, valued at Sh46.2 billion, targets over 450,000 people in Mwanza City, Magu, and Misungwi districts, covering areas such as Nyegezi, Mkolani, Buhongwa, Nyahingi, Luchelele, Sahwa, Kishiri, Igoma, Kisesa, Bujora, Kanyama, Fela, and Usagara

Once complete, it is expected to ensure reliable, safe, and continuous water supply for every household in these communities.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Nchemba stressed the importance of accountability and efficiency in implementing development projects.

“These projects are for your development. We need accountability and unity. All officials must ensure that projects are completed on time,” he said, urging stakeholders to remain committed to delivering the project without delays.

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen infrastructure, improve public health, and boost socio-economic activities by ensuring access to clean and safe water.

Officials noted that the project will not only address water shortages but also enhance urban and rural development, supporting schools, hospitals, businesses, and households across Mwanza Region.

Construction work is expected to begin immediately, with the government closely monitoring progress to ensure timely and quality completion.
