President Mwinyi urges investors to deliver tangible benefits to Zanzibar

Zanzibar President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has said the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar is prioritising investments that directly improve the lives of citizens, strengthen local economies and support sustainable national development.

Speaking on January 9, 2026, at the official inauguration of the Mazizini Fish Market in the West Urban Region, Dr Mwinyi said Zanzibar remains rich in investment opportunities and is open to investors whose projects create real value for communities.

The event formed part of activities marking the 62nd anniversary of the Zanzibar Revolution.

The President emphasised that the government is encouraging investments that go beyond profit-making to generate employment, expand business opportunities and raise incomes for ordinary citizens, particularly in areas where projects are implemented.

He said people-centred investments are essential for inclusive growth and long-term economic stability.

Dr Mwinyi noted that strategic investments in key sectors, including the blue economy, play a critical role in improving productivity and supporting livelihoods such as fishing and small-scale trading, which employ a large number of Zanzibaris.

The ceremony also marked the inauguration of the Masjid Hussein Ali Mwinyi Mosque. Both the mosque and the Mazizini Fish Market were constructed with financial support from an Omani investor, Mr Naadhim Alrahman, at a total cost of US$400,000.

Commending the investor, Dr Mwinyi said the projects have significantly improved the Mazizini area by upgrading infrastructure and creating a modern, safe and efficient working environment for fishermen, traders and local residents.

He called on the community to safeguard the facilities by maintaining cleanliness and protecting the environment, stressing that public ownership and proper care are vital to ensuring the sustainability of development projects.

During the event, the President officially handed over the Masjid Hussein Ali Mwinyi Mosque to the Office of the Chief Mufti of Zanzibar, while management of the Mazizini Fish Market was entrusted to the Ministry of Blue Economy and Fisheries.
