Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba has called on Tanzanians to safeguard peace and national unity, warning that economic progress, social stability and individual prosperity cannot be sustained without a peaceful environment.
Speaking on Friday, January 23, 2026, during the launch of the modern MV New Mwanza ferry at the South Port in Mwanza, Dr. Mwigulu said peace remains the cornerstone of Tanzania’s development journey and a critical enabler of both public and private progress.
He noted that national development efforts, including large-scale infrastructure projects, rely heavily on a stable and peaceful society, stressing that even personal economic activities depend on security and social harmony.
“None of the goals we speak about can be achieved without peace. Even your individual activities cannot succeed if there is no peace in your community. The primary beneficiary of peace is the citizen,” the Prime Minister said.
Dr. Mwigulu also urged citizens to protect the unity, patriotism and sense of brotherhood inherited from Tanzania’s founding leaders, describing these values as key pillars that have sustained the country’s stability over decades.
He observed that globally, peace has consistently proven to be a driving force behind economic growth, social welfare and national success, arguing that countries which maintain harmony among their people tend to achieve stronger and more sustainable development outcomes.
The Prime Minister’s remarks come at a time when the government continues to implement major infrastructure and economic projects, with officials emphasising that political stability and social cohesion remain essential for realising Tanzania’s long-term development ambitions.
