The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Land, Natural Resources and Tourism on Tuesday continued its meeting in Dodoma, where the Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Ashatu Kijaji (MP), presented four implementation reports on institutions under her docket, days before the commencement of the Second Meeting of the 13th Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania.
Dr Kijaji tabled reports detailing the execution of mandates by the Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA), the Beekeeping Training Institute–Tabora (BTI), the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) and the Pasiansi Wildlife Training Institute.
The presentations highlighted progress achieved, ongoing programmes and key operational challenges facing the institutions as the sector positions itself for the new parliamentary session.
The meeting, chaired by the committee’s chairperson Thimotheo Mnzava (MP), provided a platform for members to assess performance, offer policy guidance and strengthen oversight of conservation, wildlife management, training and tourism development.
Also present were the Deputy Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Hamad Hassan Chande (MP); Permanent Secretary Dr Hassan Abbasi; Deputy Permanent Secretary Nkoba Mabula; senior officials from the ministry; and heads of institutions and training colleges under the ministry.
The committee’s deliberations are expected to contribute to informed parliamentary debate on the management of land, natural resources and tourism, with a focus on sustainability, skills development and the sector’s growing contribution to the national economy.
