The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) in Morogoro has begun training thousands of business owners and tax professionals on the Integrated Domestic Revenue Administration System (IDRAS), ahead of the system’s official launch on February 9, 2026.

The training, which targets accountants, tax advisors, and business operators across the region, is part of TRA’s effort to ensure a smooth transition to the new integrated platform designed to streamline tax administration, simplify payments, and boost government revenue.

Speaking during the session, Morogoro TRA Regional Manager Sylver Rutagwelera urged participants to embrace the system, understand its operations, and apply it effectively.

“We are providing education on IDRAS to ensure every stakeholder can use it efficiently. We began with TRA staff and are now reaching out to private and public accountants as well as business owners. The training will continue over the coming week, and later, more stakeholders will be engaged,” he said.

Rutagwelera explained that IDRAS will manage all domestic taxes under a single platform, enhancing efficiency and transparency.

“After regional-level training, our team will visit every district to guide taxpayers, alongside district officers, so that every business owner in Morogoro over 344,000 can use the system confidently,” he added.

The training is being delivered by Ernest Shirima, TRA Senior ICT Officer, in collaboration with tax management officers John Magembe and Mohamed Mchekaje

They emphasized that IDRAS will reduce congestion at TRA offices, cut down repetitive procedures, and improve overall tax compliance.

IDRAS features 17 modules, including the Motor Vehicle Module and Driving Licence Module, which have been operational since last year. Other modules, such as Registration, Communication, Return Filing and Assessment, and Knowledge Management, are expected to go live soon.

One of the participants, Frida Joseph, said the system promises greater convenience and transparency.

“This system will reduce the need for repeated visits to TRA offices and will make our work of assisting taxpayers much easier. It is a major step forward for both taxpayers and the government,” she said.

TRA officials say the training marks a crucial milestone in preparing the region’s taxpayers for a modernized, digital tax system that aligns with Tanzania’s broader efforts to improve revenue collection and service delivery.
