The Mining Commission has released the latest indicative prices for gold and silver as of January 30, 2026, showing strong global valuations and competitive local buying rates in Tanzania’s mineral market.
According to the Commission, gold continues to command a high price on the international market, trading at USD 5,420.00 per troy ounce, reflecting sustained global demand for the precious metal. When converted to local units, this translates to a world market price of TZS 438,256.14 per gram.
At the domestic level, the mineral market price for gold stands at TZS 394,430.53 per gram, while the official buying centre price is TZS 385,665.41 per gram.
The difference between international and local prices reflects factors such as refining costs, export handling, commissions, and other operational adjustments within the mineral trade chain.
Silver has also maintained notable value on the global market, with a world market price of USD 118.45 per troy ounce. Locally, this corresponds to TZS 9,577.76 per gram at world market rates.
The mineral market price for silver is TZS 8,619.98 per gram, while the buying centre price is set at TZS 8,428.43 per gram.
Industry analysts note that the step-down from global market prices to local buying centre rates is standard practice, ensuring fair pricing while accounting for processing, transportation, and regulatory costs.
The pricing structure is designed to promote transparency and protect both sellers and buyers in Tanzania’s mineral sector.
The release of updated indicative prices is expected to benefit small-scale miners, traders, and investors by providing clear guidance on current market values and helping them make informed business decisions.
