Police in Mwanza have arrested a 45-year-old man from Magu District over the alleged killing of his pregnant wife following a domestic dispute.
The suspect, identified as Seke Sesila, a resident of Tinda hamlet in Mwamabanza Ward, is accused of causing the death of his wife, Rahel Mabina (39), who was reportedly two months pregnant at the time of the incident.
Mwanza Regional Police Commander Wilbroad Mutafungwa said the incident occurred in the early hours of January 15, 2026, at around 1 a.m., after a disagreement erupted between the couple at their home.
Preliminary police findings indicate that the dispute stemmed from a domestic disagreement related to household responsibilities. During the altercation, the woman reportedly collapsed and later died.
Commander Mutafungwa said the deceased was the suspect’s third wife and that the couple had one child together.
“The body has been taken to Magu District Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination as investigations continue,” he said, adding that the suspect remains in police custody and will be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.
The police chief used the incident to caution the public against domestic and gender-based violence, urging families to resolve disputes through dialogue and lawful means.
“Violence within families has no place in society. Conflicts should be addressed peacefully to protect lives and uphold human dignity,” he said.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring that justice is served while continuing efforts to educate communities on the dangers of domestic violence.
