President Samia Suluhu Hassan has appointed Paul Christian Makonda as Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, in a strategic move intended to strengthen leadership and accelerate reforms in the ministry overseeing some of the country’s most influential social sectors.
The appointment forms part of a broader cabinet reshuffle aimed at improving government efficiency, accountability and service delivery, particularly in areas that shape public discourse, national identity and youth engagement.
Prior to his elevation, Mr Makonda served as Deputy Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, where he played a key role in coordinating policy implementation and working with stakeholders across the media, arts and sports industries.
His tenure focused on advancing sectoral strategies and supporting initiatives designed to professionalise creative industries and promote sports development nationwide.
Mr Makonda succeeds Prof Paramagamba Kabudi, who has been reassigned to head another ministry as President Samia continues to realign leadership positions to maximise performance and results.
The latest changes reflect the President’s continued push to reinforce government institutions, enhance responsiveness and ensure that ministries deliver measurable outcomes that contribute to social cohesion, economic growth and the well-being of Tanzanians.
