The Deputy Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Engineer Maryprisca Mahundi, has urged students at the Tengeru Institute of Community Development to apply their education in addressing real social challenges and driving meaningful change in communities.
Mahundi made the call during her visit to the institute in Arusha Region, where she inspected the implementation of key development projects, including the construction of a new Administration Building, a Women’s Publications Documentation Centre, student hostels, and the Digital Innovation and Community Outreach Centre (JODIC).
Speaking after touring the Administration Building project, the Deputy Minister said the government remains committed to investing in infrastructure at community development institutions to strengthen learning environments, improve teaching conditions, and enhance service delivery.
She stressed the need for strict adherence to quality standards in the execution of projects to ensure value for money and long-term benefits for students and the institution.
“Projects implemented at this institution must meet approved standards to ensure public funds are used efficiently and that the outcomes reflect the intended quality and impact,” she said.
During an interaction with students, Mahundi encouraged them to move beyond theoretical learning and use their education to serve communities in practical ways.
She emphasized that community development training should translate into tangible solutions that address social and economic challenges at grassroots level.
She noted that graduates are expected to become change agents who contribute innovative ideas, ethical leadership, and practical interventions to improve community welfare and support national development goals.
On his part, the Principal of the Tengeru Institute of Community Development, Dr. Bakari George, commended the government for its continued support through strategic investments aimed at improving teaching and learning facilities.
Dr. George said the ongoing projects, including the Administration Building, are enhancing institutional efficiency and improving services for students.
He added that the government’s commitment reflects a broader agenda to strengthen community development education in Tanzania.
The Deputy Minister’s visit forms part of wider government efforts to modernize training institutions and ensure they produce competent, innovative and socially responsible professionals capable of addressing societal challenges and contributing to sustainable national development.
