Kisarawe Councillors trained to improve representation and local development

Kisarawe District Commissioner, Petro Magoti, has called on councillors to translate leadership training into meaningful service for citizens, saying effective representation at ward level is key to driving local development.

Speaking on behalf of the Coast Region Regional Commissioner, Abubakar Kunenge, Magoti officially closed a capacity-building training programme aimed at empowering councillors to better understand and execute their duties as representatives of the people. The programme brought together councillors from Mkuranga, Kibiti and Kisarawe district councils.

He stressed that councillors are a vital link between the government and communities, tasked with listening to citizens’ concerns, advocating for their needs, and ensuring development projects respond to real priorities on the ground.

“Strong leadership begins at the grassroots. When councillors are well equipped, citizens benefit directly through improved services and accountable governance,” he noted.

The event was attended by senior leaders, including ADEM Chief Executive Officer Dr. Maulid J. Maulid, the Kisarawe District Administrative Secretary, and a representative of councillors from the Coast Region.

The leaders later joined councillors for a group photograph to mark the successful conclusion of the training.

The programme focused on enhancing councillors’ capacity in representation, oversight and community engagement, with the aim of improving service delivery and development outcomes in their respective wards.

Organisers said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen local governance and ensure that citizens’ voices are effectively represented within local government structures.
