The Minister of Health, Mohamed Mchengerwa, has called on the Ocean Road Cancer Institute (ORCI) to actively promote its medical services to attract patients from across the region.

Speaking on January 5, 2026, during a visit to ORCI and the launch of its new Board of Trustees, Minister Mchengerwa stressed that the recent investments in the institute should be used to position it as a hub for medical tourism.

“With the advanced medical equipment now available at ORCI, patients can receive timely and high-quality treatment. This also opens opportunities for patients from neighboring countries such as Comoros, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo,” he said.

He urged the institute’s leadership to intensify marketing efforts, noting that showcasing its modern facilities could make ORCI a regional center for cancer care.

“Promoting these services will not only improve healthcare for Tanzanians but also attract patients from other countries, turning ORCI into a medical tourism destination,” he added.

Minister Mchengerwa also commended ORCI’s Director for effectively managing staff and ensuring the institute contributes to President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan’s vision of enhanced healthcare services nationwide.

“I congratulate you and your team for your dedication to delivering quality care. Cancer is a serious disease, and patients often feel hopeless. Your work gives them hope and confidence, which is invaluable,” he said.
