Effective management of education activities is the driving force behind success in the education sector, the Chief Executive Officer of the Agency for the Development of Educational Leadership (ADEM), Dr Maulid J. Maulid, has emphasized.

Dr Maulid made the remarks while officially closing a three-day training on Good Governance in Education for 101 Ward Education Officers from Dar es Salaam Region, organised by ADEM.

The programme aimed to equip officers with practical skills to oversee and improve education operations at ward level, including the supervision of teaching and learning in schools.

“Leadership is a responsibility. After this training, you are expected to fully supervise education activities at ward level. Let us see results starting from schools, by applying the knowledge and skills you have gained,” Dr Maulid said.

“The expertise you have acquired should guide you to ensure effective management and support the government’s goal of strengthening the education sector from the grassroots.”he added

He urged Ward Education Officers to study, understand, and implement all guidelines issued by education authorities, including the Office of the Commissioner for Education, to perform their supervisory roles effectively.

Dr Maulid also encouraged continuous learning to keep up with reforms and improvements in the sector.

ADEM’s Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Dr Lucas Mzelela, said participants had been trained in leadership, education management and administration, good governance, preparation of Local Government Education Development Plans, school supervision, management of infrastructure projects, internal auditing, community engagement, and grievance handling.

“These skills will strengthen school operations and enhance education service delivery across the region,” Dr Mzelela said.

The training ran from January 6 to 8, 2026, at ADEM Bagamoyo and was funded by the BOOST project under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.

Similar sessions are planned for Ward Education Officers in Mara, Simiyu, Mwanza, Kagera, Shinyanga, Tabora, Kigoma, Songwe, Rukwa, Katavi, Geita, Ruvuma, and Manyara regions.
