‘Guardians of the Peak’ set to boost Kilimanjaro tourism through film

By The Respondents Reporter

The Guardians of the Peak film project, now entering its second season, is poised to strengthen Tanzania’s tourism promotion efforts by using film as a powerful storytelling tool, with a particular focus on Mount Kilimanjaro.

The initiative has received a major boost through a strategic partnership between the Tanzania Film Board (TFB) and the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB), aimed at positioning Tanzania more prominently on the global tourism map through high-quality film and drama productions.

The collaboration was unveiled during a recent meeting in Dar es Salaam between TFB Executive Secretary Dr Gervas Kasiga and TTB Director of Marketing Mr Ernest Mwamwaja, who represented TTB Director General Ephraim Balozi Mafuru.

The discussions centred on deepening the use of film as a key instrument for promoting Tanzania’s tourism attractions both locally and internationally.

Dr Kasiga said film remains one of the most effective platforms for showcasing the country’s rich natural attractions, culture and heritage, noting that the partnership would stimulate growth in the local film industry while enhancing Tanzania’s global visibility.

He explained that projects such as Guardians of the Peak provide a unique opportunity to tell compelling stories that highlight iconic destinations like Mount Kilimanjaro, while also conveying important messages on environmental conservation and sustainable tourism.

The meeting was also attended by TFB Director of Film Development Emmanuel Ndumukwa, Rams Film Company Chief Executive Officer Ram Ally organisers of the Guardians of the Peak project project coordinator Shuyan Wang, also known as Elizabeth Mrembo, and project manager Fidelis Ndyamkama.

Officials said the partnership forms part of wider government efforts to harness the creative arts and film industry as strategic tools for promoting Tanzania and its tourism offerings, while at the same time raising public awareness on clean energy use and the effects of climate change.

With growing collaboration between key institutions and filmmakers, Guardians of the Peak is expected to contribute significantly to branding Tanzania as a premier destination for sustainable tourism and creative excellence.
