Tanzania’s iconic Mount Kilimanjaro is set to return to the global screen as production gears up for Season Two of the documentary series Guardians of the Peak, a project that positions film as a powerful tool for environmental advocacy and cultural storytelling.
Speaking at a press conference held on January 14 at the King Jada Hotel in Dar es Salaam, Emmanuel Ndumukwa, Director of Film Development, represented Dr. Gervas Kasiga, Executive Secretary of the Tanzania Film Board, underscoring the government’s continued backing of the project.
Ndumukwa emphasized that Guardians of the Peak goes beyond cinematic storytelling, placing Mount Kilimanjaro at the center of urgent global conversations around climate change, environmental degradation, and sustainable tourism.
“Mount Kilimanjaro is not only a national heritage site but a global symbol,” Ndumukwa said. “Through Guardians of the Peak – Season Two, international audiences will witness the environmental challenges facing the mountain, Tanzania’s conservation efforts, and the broader implications of climate change on natural landmarks worldwide.”
The series aims to elevate Tanzania’s voice within the international environmental and documentary film landscape.
Reaffirming institutional support, Ndumukwa assured the filmmakers that the Tanzania Film Board will continue to facilitate and support projects that leverage film as a catalyst for education, social impact, and global visibility for the country.
He also called upon filmmakers, performing arts professionals, government institutions, private sector partners, and the media to rally behind Guardians of the Peak and similar productions that align creative storytelling with national and global interests.
According to the producers, principal production for Guardians of the Peak – Season Two is scheduled to begin on January 20, 2026.
