Deputy Minister urges Livestock and Fisheries officers to go to farmers and fishers

By The Respondents Reporter

The Deputy Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Ng’wasi Kamani, has called on livestock and fisheries officers across the country to leave their offices and engage directly with farmers and fishers in their communities.

Speaking at a meeting with livestock keepers, fishers, and key sector stakeholders in Bariadi District, Hon. Kamani said the move aligns with the Ministry’s and Government’s current approach to bring services closer to the people.

“If the Minister travels from region to region to meet stakeholders, how can you remain in your office and expect them to come to you?” she asked.

Kamani urged officers to address challenges they encounter on the ground instead of forcing farmers and fishers to visit government offices, a practice that has been common in the past.

“This is the culture Ambassador Dr. Bashiru Ally Kakurwa has instructed us to implement starting now. Those found lazy must correct themselves, or they risk being left behind by the pace set by the Minister, the Ministry, and the President,” she warned.

Before the meeting, Kamani visited local livestock farmer and fodder producer Dr. Mathias Abuya, urging other farmers to use his farm as a demonstration site for learning and innovation.

The Deputy Minister’s message underlines the Government’s push to improve service delivery, ensure accountability, and strengthen the livestock and fisheries sectors nationwide.
