Deputy Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Ng’wasi Kamani, has concluded a training program for 350 fisheries entrepreneurs, urging them to use their newly acquired skills to create jobs, increase income, and contribute to national development.

The closing ceremony took place today, January 9, 2026, at the Fisheries Education and Training Agency (FETA) Nyegezi Campus.

Kamani said the government continues to support entrepreneurs who add value to fisheries products, helping them expand their businesses and tap into economic opportunities in the Blue Economy.

“This training reflects the commitment of the Sixth Phase Government under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan to empower citizens economically, especially women and youth. Today, as you receive your certificates, you are entrusted with the responsibility to apply your skills to create employment, generate income, and advance national development,”  Kamani said.

She revealed that the government has set aside TZS 1 billion for the construction and renovation of FETA’s infrastructure, aiming to provide high-quality training that strengthens the fisheries sector and the wider Blue Economy.

FETA Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Semvua Mzighani, explained that the program, funded by the Belgian Development Agency ENABEL through the Green and Smart Cities (IncluCities) project, focused on improving product value, increasing market competitiveness, and boosting household income.

Representatives of youth and women entrepreneurs said the training will transform the way they process and add value to fisheries products, moving away from traditional methods toward more modern, efficient practices.

Out of the 350 participants, 200 women completed training in fish processing, while 150 youth received hands-on skills in aquaculture and the cultivation of aquatic organisms.

The program is seen as a key step toward building a competitive fisheries sector that empowers communities, increases household incomes, and supports Zanzibar’s overall economic growth.
