Deputy Foreign Minister visits Namanga OSBP to strengthen border trade

Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mr. James Millya, has visited the Namanga One Stop Border Post (OSBP) to engage traders and stakeholders on improving the business environment and expanding government revenue.

During the visit, Mr. Millya was joined by Arusha Regional Manager of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Mr. Deogratius Shuma, Customs Assistant Manager, Mr. Edwin Changwe, and representatives from both government and private sector institutions.


Speaking to stakeholders, the Deputy Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to providing a safe, friendly, and efficient environment for both local and cross-border traders. 

He noted that facilitating trade is key to boosting economic growth and improving national revenue.

Mr. Shuma used the occasion to brief traders on the upcoming Integrated Domestic Revenue Authority System (IDRAS), which aims to simplify tax services, enhance transparency, and increase efficiency in domestic revenue collection.


Traders also raised challenges they face at the border. Some were addressed on the spot, while others will be resolved through ongoing efforts.

Customs Assistant Manager, Mr. Changwe, thanked the government for strengthening revenue collection through cooperation between TRA and other agencies, noting that this collaboration enhances efficiency and supports the country’s economic development.
